An old groomer's trick: give them something better to think about.

Spread a little peanut butter or plain yogurt on this mat, stick it to the tub or the floor, and your dog (or cat) gets busy licking. Licking helps most pets settle down, and while they're working on it, you can trim nails, brush out tangles or rinse off muddy legs.

• Suction cups on the back hold it to tile, bathtub walls and smooth floors, so it doesn't slide away mid-lick.
• Four different textures for different fillings. Smooth spreads go in the grooves, wet food and small treats in the bumpy zones.

How we'd use it

Spread a thin layer of yogurt or pumpkin puree on it and freeze it the night before. A frozen mat lasts a lot longer, which is exactly what you want for a full nail trim. Check that whatever you use is pet-safe. Some peanut butters contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
